In India, Mathematics remains the most preferred subject, closely followed by physics, chemistry and biology. Science remains the main draw for students in India, with 40% of them wanting to become engineers or doctors. More students prefer engineering to medicine, but there are few takers for agricultural education.

 

In India, only 6% peoples  are graduates in total population. Uttar Pradesh accounts for 15.2% of them, followed by Maharashtra 13.7% and Andhra Pradesh 8.1%. 16% of Delhis population are graduates. Number of science graduates and diploma holders in India is 12.1 million. 14% are in Andhra, 12% in Tamil Nadu, 11% in Maharashtra.

 

45% of the students did not pursue science due to lack of interest. Of those who took it up, 10% dropped out at the plus 2 level due to the cost factor. Maharashtra employs the largest workforce with science and technology education.

 

West Bengal has the highest number of ill-qualified people employed in science-centric jobs. Delhi employs the largest number of science-qualified workers in science-centric jobs. Maharashtra has the highest number of colleges in the country. 22% of all commerce graduates in the country are from Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat 13.8%.

 

Uttar Pradesh has the largest number of universities and highest number of schools that offer higher secondary courses.
