Tax Benefits for Investment in Wind Turbines: 

Income Tax Depreciation: Accelerated depreciation (80%) is available for WTGs commissioned on or before 30^th September of the financial year under Income Tax Act vide Section 32(Rule 5) Appendix 1 of Income Tax Act 1961. In the event the WTGs are commissioned between 1st October and 31st March of the financial year, 50% of accelerated depreciation (i.e. 40%) can be claimed immediately and thereafter annual depreciation of 80% can be availed. Unabsorbed depreciation can be carried forward for any number of years.

Income Tax Holiday: Ten year tax holiday in respect of profits and gains for Industrial undertakings setting up Wind farms under section 80 IA of the Income Tax Act. As per the Act, 100% of the profit generated by the Wind farm is exempted from Income Tax for 10 consecutive years within 15 years of initial generation of power.
